As a composer, 'Ebuka specializes in sacred and folk music of his native Igbo culture of Nigeria, and other sub-Saharan African cultures. He is also a composer/arranger of sacred music in English and Latin, and his sacred music interests span from Judeo-Christian chant traditions to Western classical and contemporary practice. 'Ebuka's Igbo heritage forms the backdrop for his collaborative, hands-on approach to American ensembles performing African choral music for a cross-cultural experience. This is central to his propagation of choral works by Indigenous composers from sub-Saharan Africa in the international choral space.
Written as a suitable liturgical entrance/opening hymn, this piece was scored for SATB acapella, but can however be piano/organ accompanied. Text is inspired by the Psalms (145-150).
(for George)
This piece was inspired by the words of gratitude from Psalm 105: 1-3, in commemoration of the birth of my first son - Odiraachukwumma GEORGE Ezeakacha (09/05/2024).
This is an SATB choral arrangement of a Liberian folk song with the same title BANUWA. Most recognizably, the melodic motif of the song has been anglicized into a Christmas piece "African Noel". Thus, this work was created in a bid to return the music back to its original roots and indigenous text, as well as to honor the authenticity of the culture from which it came. This performance was the world premiere at the University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music Spring Choir Concert (05/06/23).
This is an SSAA arrangement of an Igbo Folk song from Nigeria. This performance was the World Premiere of the piece by the University of Oklahoma Women's Chorus
This is an original arrangement of a Christian Igbo song "Agidigba". The phrase "Chukwuebuka" (which so happens to be my name) is used for contextual and thematic purposes, in order to emphasize the true meaning of the song. This was premiered at my Master of Music conducting recital.
One of my original compositions inspired by a repentant need for divine healing in our society and the world at large. Sacred music suitable for holy communion, penitential services, Ash Wednesday, Lenten season in general. This is a virtual choir production of the piece.
